The district Araria is surrounded by Nepal in northern side, Kishanganj in western side and Supaul at south-eastern side. Jogbani is the last point of Araria district and after that Virat Nagar district from where the borders of Nepal start

It has been carved out from the erstwhile Purnia district in the recent past. There two sub divisions of Araria, Araria and Farbisganj.
