Kesaria is in Champaran District. Kesaria is privilege of housing the tallest ever-excavated Buddhist Stupa. It is rising to a height of 104 feet. The Stupa rises in five terraces each of a different shape so that it would look like a giant mandala from above.
Originally a small mud Stupa was built here. In course of time during the Maurya, Sunga and Kushan period it became a brick Stupa with several additions and enlargements.
This ancient monument is known to the people as the deora of Raja Bon who is said to have been one of the five supreme Emperors of India |
